The Nizoral AD shampoo has 2% Ketoconazole and is an anti-fungal medicine. Ketoconazole is basically used to treat different types of skin infections including fungal infections. Seborrhea, ringworm, jock itch etc. are treated using this medicine. As Ketoconazole works well in the treatment of seborrhea, it can be used to treat scalp problems like dandruff. The 2% of Ketoconazole in Nizoral shampoo is thus used to treat dandruff. This shampoo can be used to treat any kind of dandruff. Along with treatment of dandruff the shampoo also cleans the scalp and keeps it healthy. One can get this generic medicine from over the counter as well.

How to use the shampoo?

  • First you need to wet the hair and scalp completely with water.
  • Then you need to take enough shampoo in the hand and apply it on the scalp and hair.
  • Massage the shampoo gently all over the hair and scalp and create enough lather to clean them.
  • You then need to rinse them using warm water. You can repeat the process if your doctor has asked to do so. Dry the hair after you have thoroughly cleaned them.

If the shampoo is prescribed to treat the skin other than scalp then simply apply the shampoo on the wet area. Lather it and rinse it with water after leaving it for five minutes. Never apply on the irritated, swollen or broken skin or scalp as it can increase irritation. If the shampoo enters the eyes, wash it immediately with adequate water. Doctor can prescribe different dosage, length of treatment and number of application as per your condition.
